For more info go to www.westcoastgreen.com Green Interior Design: Healthy Home Solutions Sponsored by Sustainability Academy and UCSC Extension - June 2006 Sunday, June 25, 2006 Ever wonder about the cumulative effect of all the different materials used in the home? Which ones off-gas toxic fumes thus reducing indoor air quality? Which caused too much environmental damage during their manufacture? What do we know about the labor conditions in their harvest or production? This class presents the philosophy of green design and practical advise for finding and using safe, environmentally and socially responsible, affordable and beautiful materials for home and commercial interiors. An overview of the basics about green interiors will be followed by a show and tell session on options in fabrics, furniture, flooring, countertops, wall coverings, and more. In the afternoon, students will participate in an interactive exercise doing a couple of mock rooms in which each student selects finishes for a kitchen, bath, bedroom or nursery . We will supply a floor plan and a set of typical constraints, then work with student groups to explore the “green design” possibilities. Guest lecture presentation to Textiles Class at MPC - May 2006 Monday, May 15, 2006 Presentation will touch on the impact that the conventional textile industry has on the environment and why alternatives to the status quo are needed. The presentation will then shift to the emerging alternatives and the concept of Cradle to Cradle technology. Students will see a film clip about a textile mill in Switzerland that has switched to C2C technology and then will have time to examine a variety of fabric samples that have been produced using this as well as other low impact production techniques. This presentation is for MPC textile students only. Earth Day 2006 @ Whole Foods - Saturday April 22, 2006 - Public Welcome Saturday, April 22, 2006 As part of the Whole Foods sponsored Earth Day Event Wright Design will set up a mock room displaying various eco-friendly materials, products and furnishings.
